We are thrilled to announce that WSSS Alumnus, Leif Weatherby - WSSS '03, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Research Grant for the 2011-2012 school year to study in Berlin, Germany.
Leif, son of 3rd grade teacher Abigail Reid and Bruce Weatherby, is a graduate of Wesleyan University and currently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Pennsylvania. His research is about German philosophy and literature, and his dissertation is called "Metaphysical Organs from Herder to Marx." Leif lectures and participates in conferences and workshops all over the US and in Germany. He has taught German and some upper-level courses at the University of Pennsylvania and intends to be a professor of German and/or Philosophy.
Katie Lewis (nee Freihofer), MA, WSSS '03, is a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology at Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. Katie's training focuses primarily on psychodynamic psychotherapy with patients diagnosed with serious mental illness and adults with histories of trauma. Her research endeavors focuse on language and expression in patients with serious psychopathology, and she has presented her work at several national conferences. She is involved with research groups at LIU, Adelphi University and the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, MA, and she was recently appointed the graduate student representative for the Ethics Committee of Division 39 of the American Psychological Association. Katie currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband Aaron and several piles of abandoned laundry and dishes.
