Cross Country at the WASAREN league championships – by Jenn Hunt Dempsey

Cross Country Season Concludes with Personal Records Across the Board and a First Place Team Finish for Modified Girls!

The rain stopped and we even had a few peeks of sunshine for a comfortably cool, Octobery afternoon of cross country running on Tuesday, October 21, as hundreds of WASAREN League runners took to Spa State Park to contest the league championships. Remarkably, every Waldorf finisher improved their personal best time on the course. Special congratulations to the girls modified team of Laura Howe, Cece Lagomarsino, Orion Goodemote, Kaia Anderson and Rory Taylor. Throughout the season the five girls demonstrated grit, dedication and teamwork all of which came together and really shined at this final meet to see the team taking first place. Modified boys Hugh Dempsey, Caden Awad, Jack Conway and Elliot Sabatella all came in the top 20, with Hugh and Caden finishing first and second respectively. Varsity runners Emily Wassem, Isabella Guarnieri, Evan Sabatella and Ethan Sabatella all finished the final meet with strong PRs against tough fields. Congrats also to Sophia Nicastro, who consistently ran strong throughout the season, as well as to Tucker Wurtmann and Sean Mullin, who also saw success during the season. Finally, many thanks to assistant coaches Beth Smisloff and Jenn Hunt Dempsey as well as to the faculty, parents and students who came to cheer our runners on at the championship meet as well as throughout the season.DSC_0031DSC_0016DSC_0182DSCN2038 DSCN2040
