Staff

Karen Abney – Registrar / Bookkeeper.  Karen is a former CPA who has a BA in Business from the University of Alaska in Anchorage.  Karen and her husband Robert have been Waldorf parents for 15 years starting in Alaska and then Saratoga Springs. Their daughter is in the class of 2019. She joined our staff in early 2015.

Elisabeth Garofalo – Admissions Coordinator / Lower School Office Co-Manager. Elisabeth received a BA in psychology and sociology from the University of Connecticut. She worked as a development editor in the publishing industry for over 20 years with a specific focus on nursing and medical textbooks. Elisabeth and her husband Greg have been Waldorf parents for 10 years and their daughter is in the class of 2023. They reside in Saratoga Springs and actively support the March of Dimes, Caffe Lena, and Saratoga Hospice. Elisabeth joined the Waldorf staff in 2012.

Jennifer Hunt Dempsey – Communications Director. Jenn earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and has worked in public media for the past 25 years, holding positions in programming, communications and marketing. A Waldorf parent since 2004, she has been an active volunteer for the school in the areas of communications, the parent group and athletics and also served on the board for several years. She joined the staff as Communications Director in 2017.

Jonathan Litts – Facilities Manager & Safety Coordinator / Lower School Woodworking Teacher.  Jonathan received an A.A.S. in Outdoor Recreation Programming from Paul Smith’s College and a B.S. from Lyndon State College in Recreation Resource Management.  He joined our staff in 2013.

2015 Rose Ceremony-2Anne Maguire – Administrator. Anne received a B.S. in nursing from the University of Virginia where she practiced pediatric nursing for many years.  She began working in the Admissions Office in 2007.

 

Julie Niles – Business Manager. Julie holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Hamilton College and previously worked as the Managing Editor of a Dow Jones Financial news wire in Washington, D.C.  Julie and her husband Mark have been Waldorf parents for 15 years. Their daughter graduated with the Class of 2017 and their son is in the Class of 2020. She joined our staff in 2010.

Christina Rowe – High School Office Manager. Christina graduated from SUNY Binghamton with a BA in English and Cultural Studies. She has several years of office administration experience working at the Times Union and has taught academic skills in public school special education programs. Her most recent endeavor was at the Rensselaerville Institute education consulting initiative, School Turnaround; working with schools and communities to increase life chances for students. The Rowe’s have been Waldorf parents since 2016. She joined our staff in the fall of 2017.

Elizabeth Straton – Director of Community Outreach. She joined our staff in the fall of 2017.

Sandra Strother – Lower School Office Co-Manager.  Sandra graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a B.A. in English Secondary Education. Sandra’s granddaughter is in the Class of 2022. She joined our staff in early 2017.
