Every high school student is required to complete a community service learning project in order to graduate. Service activities vary and are selected by the student, but each student is encouraged to apply their practical and academic skills to contribute in meaningful ways to both their school community and the Saratoga community at large.

Arts Beyond the School Day

The arts and music are integrated into our curriculum throughout the grades. In addition, students have several opportunities to perform for the whole student body, the whole school community and the public, greatly enhancing their stage presence, public speaking skills and comfort in front of an audience. Some of these include:

Middle School Chorus and Ensembles — Grades six through eight have chorus two days a week and winds and/or strings ensembles three days a week. They perform twice each year at all-school assembly and spring performing arts concert.

High School Chorus and Orchestra — Grades nine through twelve combine for chorus two days a week and orchestra two days a week. They perform twice each year at all-school assembly and spring performing arts concert.

High School a cappella Group — Led by choral director Katie Hooper, our High School A Cappella Group is a favorite attraction at not only school assemblies, festivals and concerts but also at Saratoga community events such as The Victorian Streetwalk and the Flurry Festival.

Community arts festivals -- Our students take part in numerous community arts events like Saratoga Arts Fest's Shakespeare in the Pines (above).

Class plays — All Lower School and Middle School classes perform a class play for the student body and the whole school community. In addition, the tenth and twelfth grades perform plays that are frequently staged at community venues such as the Arts Center and UPH and are open to the public as well as the school community.

All-school assemblies — Twice yearly all-school assemblies allow all grades to share with the larger school community what they are working on in the classroom.

Spring Performing Arts Concert at the Zankel — A showcase of high school and middle school choral and orchestral performance as well as eurythmy, a movement art unique to Waldorf education. We are lucky to be able to access the beautiful Zankel Performing Arts Center teaching and performance venue at Skidmore College for this annual event open to the public.

Festivals and special events

Our school life is rich with community celebrations throughout the grades. Traditions large and small mark the changing of seasons, honor values or virtues significant to our curriculum, bring the school community together, and build lasting memories for our students and families. Autumn Festival, Michaelmas Quest and Grandparents & Special Friends Day are just a few of our special occasions throughout the year.
