Early Childhood Camp

Ages 3 - 6

Our Waldorf Early Childhood Summer Camp will follow a similar rhythm to the school year with a healthy balance of free play, indoor and outdoor time, dedicated craft and artistic projects, water play, rest, story, gardening, summer specific activities, and time in nature. Each week, the group will take afternoon field trips for nature walks and sprinkler fun. Guest animals will find their way into our weeks so the children can have the experience of caring for these special friends. 

Students in every age group will need to bring: 

Snack, lunch, water bottle 
Bathing suit
Towel
Sunscreen
Hat
Sturdy walking shoes
Change of clothes (for ages 3 - 10)

Times: 

Full day camp runs from 9:00am - 3:00pm
Half-day option from 9:00am - 12:00pm (for Early Childhood Summer Camp only)

Pre-registered morning care and after care are available for an additional fee. 

Morning Care - 7:30am - 9:00am 
After Care - 3:00pm - 6:00pm

Week One:  A Wonder in Woodworking

June 29 -

July 3

Mr. Whitney

Age 7 - 10: Students will begin to understand the basics of woodworking techniques such as rasping, filing, and whitling. All tools and materials will be provided. 


Age 11 - 13: Students will learn the necessary techniques to build their own woodworking masterpiece under the tutelage of Mr. Whitney. All tools and materials will be provided. 


Supply fee: $25 per student

Week Two: "Wood" You Join Us?

July 6 - 

July 10

Mr. Whitney

Age 7 - 10: During this week, students will learn to construct unique projects using a variety of natural materials suited to this age group. Fun, exploration, and new skills will be the focus! All tools and materials will be provided. 
Age 11 - 13: What can you create with skill, your own hands, and a little ingenuity? We shall see! Join us for a fun week of skill and creativity! All tools and materials will be provided. 
Supply fee: $25 per student

Week Three: Circus Arts

All ages will make their own set of juggling balls and hula hoop!

Age 7 - 10: This age group will be introduced to plate spinning, juggling, clowning, hula hooping, acrobatics, and flower sticks. Depending on skill and interest level, we may advance to other types of circus equipment. 


Age 11 - 13: The older students will engage in more specific, advanced skills working with poi, unicycle, diablo, acrobatics, clowning, and hoops. We will bring in other circus equipment as interest demands! 


Supply Fee: $25 per student

Week Four: Adventure Week

Please take note of the different activity fee per age group for this week. 

Age 7 - 10: Adventures Abound 
Hiking, ropes course and zipline, kayaking, swimming, fishing!
Activity Fee: $60 per student

Age 11 - 13: Extreme Adventure
Every day will be a new challenging adventure. Mountain climbing, ropes course, zipline, white water rafting, swimming, kayaking. 
Activity Fee: $90 per student

 

Week Five: Science Week

Age 7 - 10: Create with Science!
Students will engage in a number of hands-on science activities, visit with a local beekeeper, and create a number of natural items that they can bring home with them!


Age 11 - 13: Chemistry 101 -  Beatrice Kendall at Skidmore College
Students will engage in a week of Chemistry projects with Skidmore Professor and Waldorf parent Dr. Kendall. Students will have the option to buy lunch on campus and will explore the trails of the North Woods, swim, and participate in team games.


Supply Fee: $25 per student

Week Six: Create and Bind Your Own Mini-Book

August 3 -

Age 7 - 10:  Students will learn various writing styles and techniques in order to write their own story or poem!  They will also learn introductory book design and binding, and create their own book to feature their writing.  All paper, writing, drawing, and binding materials provided.


Age 11 - 13:  Students will explore various styles of writing (poetry, stories, essays) in order to develop their own writing “voice” and complete a polished piece of work.  They will also learn introductory book design and binding, and create their own book to feature their work.  All paper, writing, drawing, and binding materials provided.

Supply Fee: $20 per student 

Week Seven: Make Your Own Comic Strip

August 10 -

August 14

Age 7 - 10:  Students will read various comic strips, experiment with writing and drawing exercises, and ultimately create their own comic strip!  All drawing materials and paper provided, along with a picture frame.


Age 11 - 13:  Students will read and learn about various styles of comics (single-panel, comic strips, graphic novels), practice drawing and writing exercises, and explore telling stories in comic-form.  They will ultimately write, draw, and design their own comic strip.  All drawing materials and paper provided, along with a picture frame. 


Supply Fee: $20 per student 

Week Eight: Yoga and Meditation

August 17 - 

August 21

Miss Zlotnick

All students will create their own lavender heating pads and make mandalas! 

Age 7 - 10: Students will engage in fun animal yoga poses, learn breathing techniques and creative ways to wind down their summer and get ready for school! 


Age 11 - 13: Students will participate in daily yoga classes, learn new techniques, chants, poses, and some of the history and current practices of yoga today.
